Inventory strategies for systems with fast remanufacturing

We describe hybrid manufacturing/remanufacturing systems with a long lead time for manufacturing and a short lead time for remanufacturing. We review the classes of inventory strategies for hybrid systems in the literature. These are all based on equal lead times. For systems with slow manufacturing and fast remanufacturing, we propose a new class. An extensive numerical experiment shows that the optimal strategy in the new class almost always performs better and often much better than the optimal strategies in all other classes.     

On the challenges of healthcare modelling and a proposed project life cycle for successful implementation

OR methods and tools are being increasingly applied within the health services domain to support objective decision-making for the effective and efficient provision of resources. Healthcare modelling, however, is beset with many challenges and this paper examines a number of issues that define the primary challenges faced by the modeller in this field. It is fair to say that their resolution determines the likely success or failure of healthcare modelling in general. Working with a number of participating health service organizations, a proposed framework towards successful implementation has evolved and is presented in this paper     

Photo-induced effect in the layered perovskite manganite La<Subscript>1.2</Subscript>Sr<Subscript>1.8</Subscript>Mn<Subscript>1.8</Subscript>Co<Subscript>0.2</Subscript>O<Subscript>7</Subscript>

It is helpful to study the photo-induced effect in the perovskite manganites not only for elucidating the mechanism of colossal magnetoresistance (CMR) effect but also for potential applications in technology. The laser-induced effect in the Co doping layered perovskite manganites La_1.2Sr_1.8Mn_1.8Co_0.2O₇, is studied in this paper and the obtained results are also compared with that gained in the Nd-doping manganites with cubic perovskite structure.

Representation of Hilbert algebras and implicative semilattices

In this paper we shall give a topological representation for Hilbert algebras that extend the topological representation given by A. Diego in [4]. For implicative semilattices this representation gives a full duality. We shall also consider the representation for Boolean ring.     

Analysis of a Duopoly Supply Chain and its Application in Electricity Spot Markets

This paper studies a supply chain consisting of two suppliers and one retailer in a spot market, where the retailer uses the newsvendor solution as its purchase policy, and suppliers compete for the retailer’s purchase. Since each supplier’s bidding strategy affects the other’s profit, a game theory approach is used to identify optimal bidding strategies. We prove the existence and uniqueness of a Nash solution. It is also shown that the competition between the supplier leads to a lower market clearing price, and as a result, the retailer benefits from it. Finally, we demonstrate the applicability of the obtained results by deriving optimal bidding strategies for power generator plants in the deregulated California energy market. Hyperbolic Schrödinger equation

Clifford algebra corresponds to Minkwoski space. The coupling between real object particles and light quantums can be discussed by Minkowski space’s directional strangeness. We introduce Galilei transfomation and Schr?dinger equation into Minkowski space and give a geometrical explanation for classical quantum theory.     

Branch and win: OR tree search algorithms for solving combinatorial optimisation problems

Currently, most combinatorial optimisation problems have to be solved, if the optimum solution is sought, using general techniques to explore the space of feasible solutions and, more specifically, through exploratory enumerative procedures in trees and search graphs. We propose Branch and Win, a general formulation for understanding and synthesising the different tree search procedures that have been presented in the literature of operations research as well as in that of artificial intelligence. Several general ideas are also presented, whose application allows designing new hybrid search algorithms, in order to implement the procedure.     

Power scaling of printed-circuit-board preionized TEA CO2 laser up to 3.6 kW

A high average power, high-repetition-rate TEA CO₂ laser employing printed-circuit-board preionizer is described. The power scaling of this preionization configuration has been demonstrated. The average output power reaches 3.6 kW at pulse repetition rate of 180 pps. Furthermore, the scaling-up ability of the rotating spark gap as high-voltage switch for high-average-power gas laser has been validated.
